Tropic Thunder review
Tropic Thunder
Film goes full retard
in its quest for inside laughs.
fake black man said what?
From all the buzz that this movie caused, I really expected it to be funnier that it happened to be. Sure, there are quite a few chuckle heavy moments and even a couple of gut busting scenes that had the whole theater howling in laughter. However, many of the jokes kind of fell flat, or were a bit overplayed. Downy’s portrayal as an Australian actor playing an American brother seemed like a really funny concept in the trailer, yet throughout most of the movie, it was so damn hard to figure out what exactly he was saying in his “black speak”, that many of the jokes got lost in the shuffle. Tom Cruise was pretty hilarious as were the fake movie trailers at the beginning of the movie. and Jack Black had a few worthy moments also. All in all, I guess it was funny, but I left the movie wishing for more levity. Perhaps, my lack of inner laughter was a result of having to put up with some three year old kid squawking at her parents throughout the entire movie. I mean, who brings a three year old to a rated R movie where”retard” and “mother fucker” are being bantered about?
in preparation for his role as a fake black man, Downey reportedly watched Soul Man 57 times.
